About Us

Hong Kong Paws Foundation

The Voice of Paws Since 2005
Hong Kong Paws Foundation (HKPAWS) is a locally registered, non-profit animal welfare charity (Charity No.: 91/11168). With no government funding or corporate backup, HKPAWS relies solely on public donations to realize our goals.

Every day, we rescue cats and dogs that have been abused, abandoned, injured, and displaced. Since early 2005, we have been working closely with local animal shelters, fosters and adopters, rehoming more than 2,000 cats and dogs so far.
We currently operate two boarding facilities: The Bow Wow Inn for dogs in Kam Tin, New Territories & Cat House in Tin Hau. Through veterinary treatment, behavior training, socialization, and foster services - and by all means prioritizing animal welfare – our vision is to eventually rehome every one of them to the best possible match of adopters.

Our Mission
Give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves

How

 We Stand Out

All Lives Matter
We don't just rescue kittens and puppies just because they are cute. We rescue all types of animals including senior and ill ones.
Trial Adoption
Not certain if the animal is the right one for you? Don’t worry - we got you covered! We offer a two-week trial adoption period to ensure if you’re the right match.
Personalised Matching
We may not have the scale of other animal shelters, but we offer personalized matching for adopters to ensure animals find their perfect match and forever homes.
Lifelong Support
We believe adoption is never the end of the story. We are always a call away for help and care even after the adoption takes place and over the years we have built a strong bond with our like-minded adopters & fosters.
Effective Charity
We are a non-profit organisation - your donation will be 100% contributed to the animals waiting for home, which includes accommodation, food, health check, surgeries and more!

How HKPAWS Started

Our founder - Kat Cheung
Kat has been an avid volunteer in animal rescue. She believes that humans have a duty to speak out for those who don’t have a voice. On a stormy afternoon in Discovery Bay in 2005, she found herself alone with 8 dogs of all sizes at an adoption event all drenched with no help.

It was at that helpless moment that the idea of setting up HKPAWS came to her mind – only if she were able to gather more likeminded volunteers, more lives could be saved.
“Without rain, there will be no rainbow.” 🌈
Our hard work will never compare to the suffering and hardship these homeless animals have gone through – and we strive to give everyone of them a second chance to start anew at HKPAWS.

Bow Wow Inn & The Cat House

Bow Wow Inn
With the massive emigration waves that have taken place in Hong Kong the past few years, we have lost a lot of fostering help and potential adopters. Meanwhile, local shelters continue to be full, with constant, imminent pressures to be closed down anytime.

As such HKPAWS decided to setup Bow Wow Inn in 2022 so that we can continue our daily rescue operations in great confidence that we could provide immediate care and shelter for dogs in need.
Bow Wow Inn is currently expanding to house up to 80 dogs. Located in Kam Tin, New Territories, Bow Wow Inn often hosts adoption events, corporate volunteering activities and educational tours.
